“For the want of a nail', is how it all began.

Kelly has always been artistic and self motivated. Every “job” has somehow directed him to where he is today.

Kelly has worked around horses all his life. When a farrier friend of his showed him a creative little sculpture, he was intrigued. His artistic side took over. With a torch he received for his birthday and a fistful of shoeing nails, he has created works of art to please the eye and cause bursts of laughter.

Everything in life has to start somewhere. Kai-Nyra Metal Art, named after Kelly’s two Border Collies, started as a hobby, which grew into a small business. Just as his art has grown, Kelly’s large sculptures have evolved from his nail sculptures smallest accessories. His wife loved the colouring that came out in the small copper accent pieces. She slowly nudged him into doing larger works in copper. Now Kelly is incorporating other materials such as glass, wood, rock and leather, into his works as well.

Kelly’s family and friends have been and are a constant driving force in his life and work. His wife and four children are a constant inspiration, as well as a headache, for him. Of course, he wouldn’t trade it for anything!!
